This Week's IRS "Hall of Shame" Inductee: Richard Hatch

If the name doesn't ring a bell, think of one of the most infamous Survivor stars to-date. If that doesn't ring a bell, just keep reading this post for God's sake!

In 2005 Richard Hatch was named in a 10-count indictment charging him with tax evasion and fraudulently using charitable donations to cover personal expenses. According to the indictment, a Hatch never bothered to report his 2000-01 winnings for the pilot season of the CBS reality series Survivor--a $1 million check and a $27,000 Pontiac. The 44-year-old Newport, Rhode Island resident also never told the Internal Revenue Service about other forms of income he was receiving and along with two tax evasion counts, Hatch was charged with filing a false return; mail fraud (four counts); wire fraud (two counts); and bank fraud.

He's currently serving a prison sentence with an expected release date of 2010, although appeals have been filed by his camp.

And for those of you who ask, "Will I go to jail for owing?", the answer to this question is "If you do this then YES, you will go to jail."
