This Week's IRS "Hall of Shame" Inductee: Wesley Snipes

In October of 2006, Wesley Snipes made the news when he ran into trouble with the IRS. The government accused the actor of failing to file tax returns for the years 1999 through 2004. In a not-so-smart maneuver, Snipes pleaded not guilty by saying he is not actually required to pay taxes. In addition to the several years of unfiled returns, he has also been indicted on federal criminal charges for his role in what's being considered a tax avoidance scheme that allegedly included him seeking $12 million dollars in fraudulent refunds. The trial began this past Monday, January 14, 2008. If convicted, Snipes could face up to 16 years in prison and some pretty hefty fines. We'll keep ya posted.
